About This Event
Immerse yourself in mindfulness through experiencing Kyūdō (Japanese archery) and the practices of haiku and Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing)! Kyūdō originated as a Samurai martial art in Japan and evolved into a mindfulness practice. Practicing kyūdō involves relaxing the body, focusing attention, and calming one’s heart/mind for precise drawing of the bow and releasing the arrow. It is a path to opening one's heart and mind to the natural dignity of being human, beyond the obstacles of ambition, frustration, and doubt. Hitting the target is not considered as important as coordinating body, mind, and bow. You are invited to interact with members of the local Blue Cliff Kyudojo, led by Ray Chin, including Solomon Diamond D’97 and Belinda Chiu D’98. You can also experience haiku writing alongside poet Keysi Montás, shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), and try Japanese tea and snacks. Come for part of the time or stay for the entire expression!
