About This Event
The original cast reunites for this live theater capture of Anaïs Mitchell's Tony-winning musical, partly developed at Dartmouth with the New York Theater Workshop. Hop Audiences got an early look at Hadestown during the New York Theater Workshop summer residency in 2016, before it went on to win eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Director for Rachel Chavkin. This live theater capture of that Broadway sensation features the five original principals: Reeve Carney as Orpheus, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice and Patrick Page as Hades. The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale about the costs of industrialization and how artists can help us bring the world back into balance. Following two intertwining love stories—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.
